Returning to rodeo after a year off due to neck injury, Tilden Hooper is back at it – something rodeo fans should all be excited to see. Breaking onto the scene fresh into 2024, Hooper kicked off the year at The American Rodeo Contender Tournament West Regional Semi-Finals and Finals with eyes set on a third American Rodeo title. The event was held January 11-13 at the South Point Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In the semi-finals, the bareback rider from Carthage, Texas made an 81.75-point ride to finish 10th. The following day, Hooper showed why he’s a past American champ and nine-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier with an 85.00-point ride for second place, just behind Bradlee Miller with an 85.25.
Moving forward, Miller and Hooper will head to Arlington, Texas for the American Contender Finals in March in hopes of advancing to the big show on March 9. Also moving on to Arlington from the West region are Cole Reiner, Cole Franks and Garrett Shadbolt. There are three regions – West, Central and East. At the Contender Tournament Finals, the top 5 athletes of that competition will then move on to compete at The American Rodeo.
