College Rodeo Update: Victoria Procter Journey from Freshman Heartbreak to Senior Triumph

By Jesse James Harris

I met up with Victoria Procter, a senior attending Texas A&M University and a two-time College National Finals Qualifier. She touched on how to handle school and rodeo, and the role her horses play in her college rodeo career.

When asked how Victoria handles rodeo and school, she said “School always comes first, there have been days where I left before the sun came up and got home well after dark just working on classes.” This is great advice for soon-to-be college rodeo athletes attempting to find a balance between school and rodeo.

Victoria also expressed what her horses meant to her during her college rodeo career. “ Bunny is the only reason anyone knows my name and my career is thanks to her, she’s the real superstar. God blessed me beyond measure with Bunny, she made this sport fun again after a difficult freshman year.” Nine days before her first college rodeo, Victoria lost her horse in a freak accident. Resulting in a very emotional freshman year. She talks about the love she has for Bunny and what that meant for her college career by saying, “All I want to do, every time I swing a leg over her, is make her look as great as I know she is. I will cherish our success forever.”

Next, I look forward to catching up with Southern Region’s Slade Wood, the 2023 CNFR Team Roping Champion.
