The Cheyenne Frontier Days, known as “The Daddy of Them All,” concluded this past weekend, continuing its storied tradition of celebrating the cowboy way in Wyoming. This year’s event saw some of the biggest names in rodeo come out to compete, but the spotlight was on the thrilling race for the All-Around Cowboy title. The contest pitted the seasoned veteran, Coleman Proctor, against the young up-and-comer, Wacey Schalla, in a clash that captivated fans and showcased the enduring spirit of rodeo.

Coleman Proctor: The Veteran Contender
Coleman Proctor, a 38-year-old with an impressive resume, came into Cheyenne with eight National Finals Rodeo (NFR) appearances under his belt and a previous All-Around title won at Cheyenne just two years ago. Proctor’s experience and skill were evident throughout the competition. Teaming up with Logan Medlin in the team roping event, Proctor demonstrated his consistency and determination.

In the qualifiers, Proctor and Medlin placed fourth with a time of 7.7 seconds, earning $3,285. They continued to show their mettle in the wildcard round, placing third with a time of 13.4 seconds, adding another $3,400 to their earnings. In the finals, Proctor and Medlin secured a second-place finish with a time of 10.0 seconds, taking home a substantial $8,000.
Wacey Schalla: The Young Sensation
At just 18 years old, Wacey Schalla emerged as a formidable contender in the All-Around race. His love for bareback riding and natural talent shone brightly at Cheyenne. Schalla made waves early on by winning the second performance with an 83.5-point ride on Rocky Mountain Rodeo’s Hondo, pocketing $2,448. He continued his impressive run in the second semifinal, scoring 88 points on Smith Pro Rodeo’s Independence and earning $3,154.

The final round was a testament to Schalla’s skill and potential. He tied for second place with a stunning 89-point ride on Summit Pro Rodeo’s Game Trail, securing $5,508. His performance not only put him in contention for the All-Around title but also cemented his status as one of the most exciting young talents in rodeo today.
