Wacey Schalla: The Cowboy Kid Redefining Rodeo Greatness

Posted by

At just 19 years old, Wacey Schalla is riding high in the pro rodeo world. In only his second full year on the PRCA circuit, he’s already ranked #1 in bull riding and holds the #2 spot in the All-Around race. That’s no small feat, especially in a field packed with veteran talent and returning champions like Stetson Wright.

From Rookie to Rising Star

Wacey’s rise has been fast, but it hasn’t been a fluke. Last year, he made a name for himself by qualifying for his first Wrangler NFR in bull riding as a rookie. He didn’t just show up—he showed out, finishing 4th in the All-Around standings and earning over $224,000 in the process. This season, he’s back and better than ever.

Big Wins Early in the 2025 Season

So far in 2025, Schalla has racked up big wins across the country. He took the All-Around title at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo, where he also won both bareback and bull riding. He dominated the Austin County Fair, won bull riding at the Heart O’ Texas Rodeo, and stood tall at the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo in Denver.

What’s more, he’s not just winning individual events—he’s proving himself as one of rodeo’s top all-around athletes. He currently sits second in the All-Around standings, and with summer ahead, he has a real shot at taking over the lead.

What’s Holding Him Back?

However, there’s one stat that tells the full story. Wacey is currently ranked #41 in bareback riding, and that’s what’s keeping him just behind the All-Around leader. Even so, his progress is undeniable. He’s already won bareback titlesthis season and is showing steady improvement.

The Road Ahead: 100 Rodeos in 100 Days

As the summer run approaches—with nearly 100 rodeos in 100 days—Wacey’s determination and talent will be tested. Events like Cheyenne Frontier DaysSalinas, and Spanish Fork are coming fast, and the pressure will be on.

But Wacey has proven he doesn’t back down. In fact, he seems to ride harder when the stakes are high.

A Star in the Making

He’s following the path laid by All-Around greats, but make no mistake—he’s blazing his own trail. As the competition heats up, Schalla is showing he’s not just the future of rodeo—he’s the right-now.
