The future of rodeo lit up the historic Fort Worth Coliseum. A sold-out crowd packed the venue for two days of fierce action at the Resistol Rookie Roundup.

Among the brightest stars was Emma Kate Parr from Alabama. She delivered a blazing 13.08-second run in the Shootout Round, edging out Makenzie Mayes to win the title.

Parr’s victory didn’t come easy. Makenzie Mayes, another top rookie, posted a strong 13.13-second run. That time set the bar high and forced Parr to deliver her best.

Rising to the challenge, Parr and her horse laid down a near-perfect pattern. The Fort Worth crowd erupted as she secured the win by just hundredths of a second.

The battle between Parr and Mayes has added excitement to the 2025 Resistol Rookie standingsParr holds the top spot, with Mayes close behind.

With summer rodeos ahead, including stops at RenoCheyenne, and Salinas, the rookie race is far from over. Every run will count, and the title could come down to the final rodeo of the year.

For now, Emma Kate Parr can celebrate her hard-fought win. It’s a shining moment early in what looks like a standout career.

Stay tuned — the rookie class of 2025 is just getting started, and if this weekend showed anything, it’s going to be one to remember.
