San Diego, CA — Dressed in a vibrant hot pink top that matched her electric energy, Jimmie Smith rounded the third barrel at the San Diego Rodeo with A Valiant Nicky, at full stride. The packed stands roared as the duo powered toward the finish line, demonstrating the precision and grit that have defined Jimmie’s barrel racing career.

A proud Texas native and graduate of Texas A&M University, Jimmie’s 2023 season kicked off with a major victory at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver, where she left a stacked field of competitors in her dust. Known for her fearless runs and connection with her horses, Jimmie has climbed the ranks in the WPRA since joining in 2018, securing her first Wrangler NFR qualification in 2020.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jimmie’s dedication to rodeo stems from a family tradition. Raised in a rodeo-loving household, she competed in Junior High, High School, and collegiate rodeos, excelling in barrels, breakaway roping, and goat tying. She credits her success to a strong support system and her mare Lena, a Firewaterontherocks daughter who knows her way around a barrel.

On social media, Jimmie reflected on her time in San Diego, sharing, “Nothing quite like a sold-out @sandiegorodeo! So thankful for the opportunity to return for a second year. What a blast!”
With her undeniable talent and passion for the sport, Jimmie Smith is a name to watch as she chases her dreams of returning to the Wrangler NFR. As fans witnessed in San Diego, every run she makes is a testament to her dedication and love for the rodeo way of life.
