Flawless Lucas Fideles Souza Wins PBR Challenger Series Residency Event in Fort Worth, Texas

Souza’s career-first PBR event win netted him 41 Challenger Series points

PBR PRESS RELEASE FORT WORTH, Texas – As the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series residency at Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, continued Sunday afternoon, Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) reached a crucial career milestone. Courtesy of a perfect 2-for-2 performance inside the iconic venue, Souza won his career-first PBR event, victorious at the second iteration of PBR Sunday at Cowtown.

In Round 1, Souza covered Wild Bill (Gene Baker/Cryogen) for 83 points.

Souza, who advanced to the championship round second on the event leaderboard, next readied to go head-to-head against Captain Hook (Shuler Bucking Bulls). Matching the animal athlete jump-for-jump, Souza reached the requisite 8 for 81 points, clinching the event win.

Souza left the Metroplex having earned 41 Challenger Series points.

Second was Fernando Henrique Novais (Pereira Barreto, Brazil), collecting 27 Challenger Series points. 

Novais’ efforts were headlined by his Round 1-winning, 86.5-point ride atop Mayhem (Malabanan Farms).

Rounding out the podium was Keshon Johnson (Ardmore, Oklahoma) in third. 

Johnson bested Whiskey Dreams (L&F Cattle Co.) for 79.5 points to earn 13 Challenger Series points.

As the only other rider to log a score, Brazilian newcomer Wellington Ferreira was fourth. 

Ferreira covered The People’s Champ (Cord McCoy/James/DIttman) for 72 points in Round 1, before being bucked off by Solitary Man (Shuler Bucking Bulls) in 1.68 seconds in the championship round.

The Top 5 finish garnered Ferreira 8 Challenger Series points.

In the bull pen, Soul Train (5S Ranch) bucked supreme. Earning the Bull of the Event title, Soul Train was scored an unrivaled 45 points in Round 1 when he tossed Davi Henrique de Lima (Candido Mota, Brazil) in a swift 1.68 seconds. 

The PBR Challenger Series residency at Cowtown Coliseum continues Sunday, June 26. Action gets underway at 2:00 p.m. CT.
