Leaderboard: Lummus, Talley Dominating Going Into American 2023

Number one and two in the 2023 world standings with over 20 years combined of professional rodeo experience: Will Lummus and Jacob Talley. These steer wrestlers are set to compete this week at The American Rodeo; and while neither are world champions quite yet, there is no doubt they are showing us they could be this year.

#1 In the World

Lummus, the Mississippi cowboy, has five Wrangler NFR qualifications (2018 – 2022) and received his American Rodeo invitation by ending the 2022 season second in the world. In 2021, he won the NFR average.

With five wins already in the 2023 season, he’s leading the standings over Talley, Ty Erickson, Tucker Allen and Jesse Brown as of March 4, 2023. His wins so far include the Stampede at the Ike, Magnolia Center Pro Rodeo, Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, 150th Silver Spurs Rodeo and Georgia National Rodeo.

#2 In the World

In 2021, Talley, who has four NFR qualifications (2016, 2018, 2020 and 2021), came home from the NFR third in the world. However, in 2022, the cowboy from Keatchie, Louisiana took some time off to be home as he and his wife welcomed their son into the world.

This year, he is back at it consistently taking home money since the season began in October 2022, including second at the Waller County Fair & Rodeo, third at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and the win at the Brighton Field Day & Rodeo. To qualify for the richest weekend in western sports, Talley made a 3.75-second run at the East Region Finals and will compete at the Contender Finals on March 9 for a spot with Lummus on March 11.

With the top two steer wrestlers in the world, plus a list of other dedicated and talented athletes, the action at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas is going to keep you on the edge of your seat!
