Every December, Las Vegas is full of cowboys, cowgirls and rodeo fans who have made their way to watch their favorite rodeo athletes compete in the Thomas & Mack Center at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR).

However, in recent years, there is another competition kicking off all the excitement featuring the top female ropers in the sport: the National Finals Breakaway Roping (NFBR). This year, the NFBR will be held December 5-6 at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center. Roping will begin each day at 2:00 p.m. PST.
More than a third of contestants qualified are going into the competition with over $100,000 won in the regular season. During the two-day, 10-performance event, the top 15 ladies will compete for $250,000.

Coming in number one in the world, Shelby Boisjoli set a new regular season earnings record in breakaway roping with $164,549. Following Boisjoli are young phenom Hali Williams, and sisters, Martha and Sarah Angelone. In 2022, Martha took home the world title; and this year, Sarah has taken the professional rodeo scene by storm, as well, with more than $114,00 won.

Other previous world champion cowgirls set to compete at the 2023 NFBR include Kelsie Domer, Jackie Crawford and Erin Johnson.
