Jake Shelton Steer Wrestling Rookie Profile
Jake Shelton is quickly making a name for himself in PRCA steer wrestling. At just 19 years old, the Krum, Texasnative has emerged as a serious contender in the 2025 Resistol Rookie of the Year race. His early season success, including a lightning-fast 3.8-second round win at Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo, has caught the attention of fans and fellow competitors alike.
A former standout at Weatherford College, Shelton has brought skill and determination into every arena this season. Although he remains unranked in the overall PRCA world standings, Shelton currently sits seventh in the 2025 rookie steer wrestling standings with $4,432 in season earnings.
His run at the Rookie Roundup in Fort Worth also showcased his ability to compete under pressure. There, Shelton placed in the early rounds and walked away with added confidence—and a paycheck.
Throughout the spring, Shelton has competed at top rodeos across the country, including Clovis, Red Bluff, San Angelo, and Logandale. While not every run has paid off, the consistency of his times and willingness to travel prove his commitment to the sport.
As the summer run approaches, Shelton will face even tougher competition and bigger payouts. But with his quick hands, gritty style, and the kind of mental toughness Texas is known for, Jake Shelton is poised to rise.
Expect to hear more from Jake Shelton in steer wrestling this season as he continues to chase his rookie goals and build toward a lasting PRCA career.
